The West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition supports economic and equitable growth in the food and agriculture sector in West Virginia through policy advocacy, community organizing, programming, technical assistance, and resource destination.

About

The Coalition works to build the local food and agriculture system in West Virginia in a way that provides viable incomes for farmers and local foods businesses and ensures all residents have access to locally produced food.

To do this, the Coalition operates a number of programs that work to equitably, economically grow the food and agriculture sector in the state of West Virginia. To do this, the Coalition works with groups in the community to develop the expertise and acquire state, federal, and philanthropic monies to fund these projects. Program and project include: 

  • Community-based cold storage 
  • SNAP Strech – matches SNAP/EBT purchases at farmers markets, retailers, CSAs, mobile markets and on-farm stands with a dollar for dollar ratio for adults and a 1:2 ratio for families with children and senior citizens) 
  • WV Rural Grocers Network – creates a space for training, personalized technical assistance, and networking for small rural grocers 
  • Revolving Equipment Fund – helps rural grocers access equipment such as freezers and refrigerators for their grocery 
  • State/Federal Policy Advocacy 
  • FarmFreshWV.com – Showcases farms, farmers markets, farm-to-table restaurants, craft beverage, and agri-tourism opportunities. 
  • Farm-to-School – youth entrepreneurship
