The Wood County Economic Development office strives to foster a strong economic environment which supports business, nurtures growth and new investment while attracting sustainable businesses and a quality labor force to our communities. The organization will promote and facilitate economic diversity, development and entrepreneurship within our community.

The Wood County Economic Development office is the umbrella for two agencies—the Wood County Development Authority and the Parkersburg-Wood County Area Development Corporation.

Wood County Development Authority: The Wood County Development Authority is a public entity that was created by the Wood County Commissioner’s in order to promote development within Wood County. Our key purpose is to encourage and assist through loans, investments or other business transactions in the locating of new businesses and to promote the expansion of existing businesses. We support the economic environment of the county and provide maximum opportunities for employment. We work in conjunction with federal, state and local entities to promote and advance industrial, commercial, agricultural, and recreational developments in the county.

Parkersburg-Wood County Area Development Corporation: The Parkersburg-Wood County Area Development Corporation is a private, non-profit, membership-driven entity created as a forum for the developmental planning of Wood County. Our key purpose is to consolidate various developmental and community interests with the objective of employment and investment opportunities in the area. We act as a community focal point in areas concerning economic planning and development and encourage the retention, expansion and relocation of commerce and industry within Wood County. Program Focus for the Corporation Includes:

·         Maintaining a county-wide property database for commercial and industrial properties

·         Growth and retention of existing industrial and commercial business

·         Attraction and development of a qualified workforce

·         Development of industrial and commercial property

·         Attraction of new industrial and commercial business

·         Facilitate business counseling for entrepreneurs and small business

·         Support development of community initiatives that enhance the quality of life

·         Organize a quarterly meeting with State, County and City entities

·         Facilitate new Business Development
