Tri-State Makes Festival

The Tri-State Makes Festival, RCBI’s annual celebration of creativity and ingenuity, will continue this year with a virtual Design Challenge. Hobbyists, inventors, tinkerers, artists and students of all ages who enter the Design Challenge are eligible for one of several awards including the “Best of Show* grand prize, Participants should create a unique invention and submit a 2-minute video explaining their creation and the making process. Winners will be announced online during a live event Dec. 9.

In addition to the Design Challenge, this year’s Tri-State Makes Festival will feature a Series of Maker Master Classes to encourage people of all ages to develop their making talents.

The Women Innovate Pitch, WVU Launch Lab

In conjunction with Women Entrepreneurs Week 2021 and Monteclair University, the Morris L. Hayhurst Launchlab and WVU partners contacted, will host the 2nd annual Women Innovate Pitch Competition. This competition serves as an opportunity to highlight any female innovators and entrepreneurs in the state, and to pitch their idea to a panel of esteemed female judges. Applications will open on September 17, and close on October 8 @ 5 PM.

The event will be held virtually on October 20 from 5 – 7 pm on Zoom. Prizes of over 5000 will be awarded.

Join us for Marshall University’s 2021 Women Entrepreneurship Week celebration from Monday, October 18 – Friday, October 22.

Women Entrepreneurship Week started eight years ago at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey and is now a global movement. In 2019, 242 universities in 32 countries joined in the celebration.

The week features a virtual fireside chat with Lee Farabaugh, Core10 Co-Founder and President; a Women’s Speed Networking Event; an iCenter Content Creation Studio Open House; and an Intro Design Thinking Workshop.

This week long experience will bring together various competitions from across the state that are promoting and fostering entrepreneurship in West Virginia. The competitions range from supporting elementary to college students and community members in their pursuit of becoming entrepreneurs and creating more opportunities in West Virginia.
